The mechanical synchronization of the front and rear axles allows measurement of the latest all-wheel drive vehicles equipped with an advanced torque distribution system between axles. It also enables correct measurements of vehicles with single axle drive equipped with the latest traction control systems, which require all wheels to be in motion during measurement.
Measuring capabilities of the VT-4/B2 evo dynamometer:
- Inertial mode
The vehicle is accelerated on the dynamometer to a speed selected by the user, and then, after disengaging, the vehicle rolls without drive until it stops.
The load for the engine in inertial measurement includes the mass of rollers, rolling resistance, and drive mechanism resistance. The measurement time is about 10-20 seconds of full load and a few minutes of free rolling on the dynamometer until stopping. Power and torque are measured as functions of the vehicle's acceleration on the rollers (power and torque at the wheels) and its deceleration (loss power and torque). Their sum creates a result representing the engine's power and torque. - Dynamic load mode
The measurement proceeds similarly to inertial mode, except that the eddy brake simulates a greater load on the system. The load indicator is a percentage value determined in the dynamometer software by the user. This mode allows for extended measurement time and proper loading of the vehicle, which is recommended for measuring very powerful turbocharged engines. - Constant speed mode
The measurement involves balancing the vehicle's driving force using the eddy brake. The measurement time is about 10 seconds of full load (for stabilizing revolutions and reading results) for each measurement point (specifically selected revolutions). Power at the wheels for each measurement point is calculated based on data from the load cell and displayed in real-time on the screen. - Road mode
The vehicle accelerates in a manner similar to road conditions. The eddy brakes, based on input data, generate a load similar to forces resulting from air resistance and inclines, depending on the current speed of the vehicle. - Driving cycles
The ability to perform so-called driving cycles according to a self-configured scheme or selected from the available database (e.g., EUDC test simulating driving in non-urban conditions). Driving cycles are used, among other things, to test exhaust emission levels, fuel consumption, etc., or to calibrate LPG/CNG installations.
